Drilling intersects 3.04 m of 9.58 % Zinc+Lead and 15.42g/t Silver in hole A-10-75 on the Cardiac Creek Deposit & Drilling intersects large interval of Mineralization on the North Lead Anomaly

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – Monday, December 20, 2010 – Canada Zinc Metals Corp. (TSX Venture Exchange: CZX) is pleased to provide the balance of drilling results from the recently completed 2010 diamond drill program on its 100% owned Akie property, which includes the Cardiac Creek SEDEX zinc-lead-silver deposit.  The property is located approximately 260 kilometers north-northwest of the town of Mackenzie in northeastern British Columbia, Canada.

2010 Akie Property Drill Program

During the 2010 diamond drilling program on the Akie property, eleven drill holes were completed totaling 6,127.57 metres of drilling.  Exploration targets included the Cardiac Creek deposit (3 holes), the NW Extension (4 holes) and the highly prospective North Lead Anomaly (4 holes). All drill holes intersected mineralized shales of the Gunsteel formation, the primary host of the Cardiac Creek deposit.  Please refer to the June 30, 2010 press release for more details on the geological setting and the objectives for the 2010 program.

This release details results from hole A-10-75 on the Cardiac Creek deposit and hole A-10-76 on the North Lead Anomaly.

            Cardiac Creek Deposit

Drilling on the Cardiac Creek deposit focused on the northwestern edge and central areas of the deposit.  Three drill holes were completed totaling 2,078.78 metres (A-10-73B, A-10-74 and A-10-75).  Drill hole A-10-75 represents the second of two holes testing the northwestern edge of the deposit. In addition to the Cardiac Creek Zone, a thick Hanging Wall Zone was intersected which may represent a locally folded sequence.  Additional drilling is required to further determine the significance of this zone.

“We are pleased with the assay results of hole A-10-75 as it confirms significant mineralization continues on the northwestern edge of the Cardiac Creek deposit,” stated Mr. Peeyush Varshney, President and CEO of Canada Zinc Metals.  “Hole A-10-75 represents about a 100 meter stepout downdip from hole A-07-46.”

“Also of great interest is the additional 24.70 metres of zinc-lead mineralization that was intersected in the Hanging Wall Zone.”

            North Lead Anomaly

The drilling on the North Lead Anomaly continued to test the mineralization encountered in the 2008 Canada Zinc Metals and 1996 Inmet Mining drill holes.  Four drill holes (A-10-67, A-10-68, A-10-70, and A-10-76) were completed totaling 2,584.79 metres of drilling.  The final drill hole, A-10-76, of the 2010 program was drilled 200 metres along strike, northwest of A-10-68, and tested the large intersection of mineralization encountered in that drill hole.  Drill hole A-10-76 encountered a similarly large 129.97 metre interval from 614.78 to 744.75 metres of interbedded Gunsteel Formation shale with thinly to thickly bedded pyrite mineralization that occurs at the same stratigraphic position and is similar in character to that of pyrite mineralization closely associated with the Cardiac Creek deposit.  Results from the interval returned anomalous zinc values ranging from 0.10 to 0.48%.  In addition, the mineralization contains geological features which had been known only to occur within Cardiac Creek style mineralization.  Previously reported results from A-10-68 are listed in the table below (see November 4th, 2010 press release).

The results from the North Lead Anomaly continue to be extremely positive, suggesting that another zinc-rich sulphide system is present on the Akie property.  All results will be evaluated in order to delineate future drill targets as a follow up to this year’s drill program.

Canada Zinc Metals has implemented a rigorous quality assurance/quality control program at the Akie property using best industry practices. The program includes chain of custody of samples from drill to laboratory. All drill core is logged for geology, structure, mineralization, RQD and photographed. Sections of sulphide mineralization are marked for sampling with a series of standards, duplicates and blanks inserted into the sample stream for QA/QC purposes.  Samples are split by a diamond saw, tagged and bagged and forwarded to Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C. for analysis.  All remaining drill core is stored at the Akie exploration camp. 

About the Akie Property

The Akie zinc-lead property is situated within the southern-most part (Kechika Trough) of the regionally extensive Paleozoic Selwyn Basin, one of the most prolific sedimentary basins in the world for the occurrence of SEDEX zinc-lead-silver and stratiform barite deposits.

Drilling on the Akie property by Inmet Mining Corporation during the period 1994 to 1996 and by Canada Zinc Metals since 2005 has identified a significant body of baritic-zinc-lead SEDEX mineralization (Cardiac Creek deposit).  The deposit is hosted by variably siliceous, fine grained clastic rocks of the Middle to Late Devonian ‘Gunsteel’ formation.  The Company has outlined a NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource of 23.6 million tonnes grading 7.6% zinc, 1.5% lead and 13.0 g/t silver (at a 5% zinc cut off grade). 

Two similar deposits, Cirque and Cirque South, located some 20 km northwest of Akie and owned under a joint venture by Teck Resources and Korea Zinc, are also hosted by Gunsteel rocks and have a combined geologic inventory in excess of 50 million tonnes (not 43-101 compliant) grading  approximately 10% combined zinc + lead.

In addition to the Akie property, Canada Zinc Metals controls a large contiguous group of claims which comprise the Kechika Regional project. These claims are underlain by geology identical to that on the Akie property (Cardiac Creek deposit) and Cirque. This project includes the 100% owned Mt. Alcock property, which has yielded a historic drill intercept of 8.8 metres grading 9.3% zinc+lead, numerous zinc-lead-barite occurrences,  and several regional base metal anomalies.
